Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (16.3-ounce) can refrigerated large flaky biscuits (8 count)
- 1/2 cup canned apple pie filling, finely diced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Step 1: **Prepare the biscuits and filling.** Open the can of refrigerated biscuits. On a lightly floured surface, gently flatten each biscuit into a thin circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter. If the apple pie filling has large chunks, dice them into smaller, bite-sized pieces for easier assembly.
- Step 2: **Assemble the apple pie bombs.** Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the diced apple pie filling into the center of each flattened biscuit. Bring the edges of the biscuit together over the filling, pinching them firmly to seal and form a ball. Ensure there are no open seams to prevent filling from leaking out during cooking.
- Step 3: **Prepare the coating.** In a small shallow bowl, melt the unsalted butter. In another shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, mixing well. Dip each sealed apple pie bomb into the melted butter, ensuring it's fully coated, then roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly covered.
- Step 4: **Air fry the bombs.** Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes. Place the coated apple pie bombs in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not touching (you may need to cook in batches). Air fry for 6-9 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Step 5: **Make the glaze and finish.** While the bombs are cooking, whisk together the powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk in a small bowl until smooth. Add more milk, a tiny bit at a time, if needed to reach a drizzleable consistency. Once the apple pie bombs are done, remove them from the air fryer and let cool slightly. Drizzle generously with the prepared glaze before serving warm.
Notes
- For best freshness, enjoy these delightful bites warm from the air fryer, but any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerated for longer.
- To bring back that glorious gooey warmth and a hint of crispness, pop leftovers back into the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 2-3 minutes, or microwave gently for about 15-20 seconds.
- While perfectly delightful on their own, elevate these warm apple bombs by serving them alongside a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, a dollop of fresh whipped cream, or a sprinkle of additional cinnamon for an extra cozy treat.
- To guarantee no messy leaks and maximum gooey apple goodness inside, be sure not to overfill your biscuit bombs – about one tablespoon of finely diced filling per biscuit is perfect for easy sealing and a delicious, contained treat.
