Ingredients
Scale
- 1 fresh ripe pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch chunks (approximately 4 cups)
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon neutral oil (such as avocado oil or melted coconut oil)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for added warmth)
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the pineapple by peeling, coring, and cutting it into uniform 1-inch chunks.
- Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the pineapple chunks with the brown sugar, neutral oil, ground cinnamon (if using), and sea salt. Toss gently until all the pineapple pieces are evenly coated.
- Step 3: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes. Arrange the coated pineapple chunks in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook in batches if necessary.
- Step 4: Air fry for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to ensure even caramelization and browning.
- Step 5: Continue to air fry for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the pineapple is tender, slightly shriveled, and beautifully caramelized with golden-brown edges.
- Step 6: Carefully remove the caramelized pineapple chunks from the air fryer and serve warm as a sweet tropical snack or dessert.
Notes
- For optimal freshness, store any leftover caramelized pineapple chunks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
- To revive leftovers, a quick 2-3 minute reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) will bring back some warmth and tender-crisp texture, or microwave briefly until warm.
- Beyond a standalone snack, these warm, caramelized pineapple chunks are heavenly over a scoop of vanilla ice cream, stirred into plain yogurt, or served as a vibrant side to grilled beef or chicken.
- For the most delicious results, ensure you start with a very ripe pineapple and cut your chunks uniformly; this promotes even caramelization and don't forget to shake the basket for those beautiful golden-brown edges.
