Ingredients
Scale
- 4 standard-sized Earl Grey tea bags
- 1.5 cups hot water (for brewing tea)
- 2.5 cups cold water
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen raspberries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
- A generous amount of ice cubes
Instructions
- Step 1: Place the Earl Grey tea bags into a heatproof pitcher or large jar. Pour 1.5 cups of hot (just boiled) water over the tea bags and let them steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on desired strength. Remove and discard the tea bags, then set the concentrated tea aside to cool slightly.
- Step 2: While the tea cools, prepare the raspberry simple syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of raspberries, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, gently mashing the raspberries with a spoon as they cook. Continue to simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the raspberries have softened and released their juices.
- Step 3: Strain the raspberry mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl, pressing on the solids to extract all liquid. Discard the remaining raspberry pulp. Allow the raspberry simple syrup to cool completely.
- Step 4: Once the brewed tea and raspberry syrup are cooled, combine them in the pitcher. Stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice (if using) and then add 2.5 cups of cold water. Stir everything well to ensure it's fully combined.
- Step 5: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until the tea is thoroughly chilled. To serve, fill tall glasses with a generous amount of ice cubes and pour the Earl Grey Raspberry Iced Tea over the ice. Garnish with a few fresh raspberries or a mint sprig if desired.
Notes
- Keep your delightful iced tea covered in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days; a quick stir before pouring will ensure all the flavors are perfectly blended for each refreshing glass.
- As this is a true iced tea designed for refreshment, reheating is not recommended; simply add more ice to your glass if it loses its frosty chill, or let it warm slightly for a less intense cold sip.
- Enhance your serving experience by adding a few frozen raspberries instead of just ice cubes to keep your tea perfectly chilled without dilution, and a fresh mint sprig for an aromatic finish.
- Don't underestimate the power of the optional lemon juice; a small squeeze really brightens the raspberry and balances the tea's floral notes, transforming the overall flavor profile beautifully.
