Ingredients
- Creamy Peanut Butter: 1/2 cup
- Whole Milk (or preferred non-dairy milk): 1/2 cup
- Granulated Sugar: 1/4 cup
- Water: 1/4 cup
- Unsalted Butter: 1 tablespoon
- Pure Alcohol-Free Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
- Fine Sea Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
Instructions
- Step 1: Combine the milk, water, granulated sugar, and peanut butter in a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan.
- Step 2: Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly to prevent scorching. Continue heating until the peanut butter is fully melted and incorporated and the sugar has completely dissolved (the mixture should come just to a gentle simmer, but do not allow it to boil vigorously).
- Step 3: Remove the saucepan from the heat immediately. Whisk in the unsalted butter until it is completely melted and the syrup looks glossy and uniform.
- Step 4: Stir in the pure alcohol-free vanilla extract and fine sea salt, whisking for about 30 seconds to ensure the salt is evenly distributed and the flavor is balanced.
- Step 5: Allow the syrup to cool slightly (about 5–10 minutes) before serving. The syrup will naturally thicken as it cools. Serve warm over your favorite breakfast items or desserts.
Notes
- For optimal freshness, store any leftover syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week; note that the texture will be quite firm when chilled.
- If the chilled syrup is too thick, gently reheat it on the stovetop over low heat or briefly microwave it, adding a teaspoon of milk or water during the warming process to restore the smooth, pourable consistency.
- Beyond traditional pancakes and waffles, try swirling this decadent syrup into plain Greek yogurt or using it as a sweet, nutty layer in a homemade ice cream sundae bowl.
- Ensure you remove the saucepan from the heat before incorporating the butter and vanilla bean paste, as this preserves the delicate flavor compounds and guarantees a beautifully glossy final texture.
